OUR BOWER & GARDNER DAYS
(REVISED, AMENDED, UPDATED AND SHEPHERDIZED)
(sung to the tune of "Those Were the Days")
By Cindy Sostchen
.
Once upon a time there was a law firm
where we used to do a tape or two
the venue was 110 East 59th Street
but first 415 Madison Avenue
Those were the days my friend
and now we're back again
to reminisce about our youthful ways
I was right out of school
they threw me in the pool
but that is why
I'm a success today
I remember most the Christmas parties
in our brand new outfits we would preen
gazing at the mirror in the bathroom
then getting crocked at Tavern on the Green
Those were the days my friend
we thought they'd never end
each one of us has got a million tales
we'd get bi-monthly checks
and since we worked on Lex.
we'd spend it 'cross the street at Bloomingdales
I became a wealth of information
many useful things the firm taught me
to wit, not to have an operation
at any hospital owned by HHC
Those were the days my friend
those doctors we'd defend
our attorneys performed such courtroom feats
each one a legal giant
who fairly charged the client
and I should know, I did their billing sheets
Thank you, Phyllis, for the invitation
to spend a night honoring B&G
though it's true we're all a wee bit older
everybody here looks great to me
Those were the days my friend
too bad they had to end
throughout the years we've gone our separate ways
our children all have grown
from NY some have flown
but in our hearts
that old firm always stays
How amazing that we're all together
connecting with old memories, good and bad
now it's time to smile and raise our glasses
to the best damn job we ever had
My friend those were the days
what happened to my raise
we worked real hard
but sure knew how to play
D.V.s on every trial
even without the file
our loyalty tonight's Exhibit A
- dedicated in loving memory to Andrew N. Sears, who always encouraged my poetry. I know he would have enjoyed this!
